LOCATION
Foley House is situated at High Garrett, Essex, on the A131 .It is two miles north of Braintree, and four miles south of Halstead. Bus Stops are located immediately outside the house and a railway link is available from Braintree to the main Liverpool Street/Norwich line. Foley House has its own car and accessible Minibus.

COMMUNICATION & CARE
Foley House has a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere in a 'communicating' environment where residents can choose to be part of a group or have their privacy and independence. There is a dedicated staff group, on call 24 hours a day, whose aims are to ensure that the residents' individual needs are respected and of paramount importance.
British Sign language (B.S.L) is used which facilitates the maximum communication and decreases the sense of isolation felt by so many deaf people in homes not catering exclusively for them.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
There is an active social committee of residents and staff, who decide together the social events to be organised. We have friends, both deaf and hearing, who visit and join us for social activities both in the home and on outings in our own coach to places of interest and enjoyment, including to theatres, which employ an interpreter to 'sign' performances. Every month residents, who wish to, attend Lunch Clubs and Deaf Clubs at RAD (the Royal Association in Aid of Deaf People) Some residents who wish to can go to external day-centres where they can pursue a wide variety of interests. Indoor and outdoor leisure activities are actively encouraged and include greenhouse gardening, swimming and bingo, board games, film club, library, crafts etc. Shopping expeditions are encouraged, a mobile clothes shop visits 3/4 times a year and there is a small in-house shop operated by staff and residents.
